of shoes and ships and sealing wax malabrigo worsted...

i think i have a malabrigo addiction.  the worst part is? the sweater i'm making isn't even for me.  my soul weeps with envy. BUT, i'm ordering two (hell, who am i kidding? i'm probably going to order three) skeins in the whales road colorway to knit up a new scarf because god knows i need one...  anyway, onto my major current project! i've just finished the bust and am now starting on the front panels.  the directions say to knit them one at a time, but... that takes too long.  the pattern is the poet's pullover by ashley knowlton. i'm knitting this sweater for a very good friend as a going-away present; she's shipping off to london to study at LAMDA (to the average joe, that would be the london academy of music and dramatic arts), because she's basically amazing. onto some photos!

okay, well, until i figure out how this really works, we're gonna go with just one photo. thanks, flickr. you're dumb.

anyway, this is a picture of The Sweater from a couple days ago -- i'm a bit farther now, nearly done with the front bits. will start on the back and then hopefully be done with the body by tuesday. i loooooooooove the colors. so pretty. i got a little confused with the decreases for the v-neck but i don't think it'll be noticeable.

i haven't been up to much else lately -- this is my main knitting project at the moment, because i want to finish it ASAP. i also want to get some malabrigo in the whales road colorway to knit up a new scarf -- the one that presentsknits just posted a few days ago seems quite fetching indeed.

alas. so much to knit, so little time.

in other news i am taking my computer to be fixed tomorrow. i need a new battery, and i think that the power cable i bought a few months ago isn't the right voltage -- i've been having issues with my computer overheating and stuff for a few months, which is probably because of this stupid power source. well, i need a new battery anyway... bleah.

also, textbooks are so effing expensive it's not even amusing. particularly when you consider the fact that i need ten books for my french class -- ten! -- not okay. at least they are on the cheapish side; my theatre textbooks aren't cheap at all. ugh.

am also in last-minute-planning-mode for the orientation show. drawing "sets," writing down changes, last-minute edits, etc. etc. i still have one or two monologues to write out, and i need to time it out really bad. i need to know how long it'll go! i have an hour exactly. you know, i should do that tonight -- so off i go, to do work. the next time i write i will probably be back in my dorm -- i move on wednesday! can't wait.

an introduction

for those who are probably wondering "what in god's name is a birdgehrl," rest assured that your query will be answered.  "bird gehrl" is a song by antony & the johnsons and it has always been near and dear to my heart and my own aspirations for life.  so that's that.

anyway, this is meant to wind up as a sort of project/catch-all blog (eventually containing cooking, baking, knitting, photography, and perhaps some permutations of all of the above). hopefully having this will encourage me to actually take photos of my work instead of just laze about (and this is why i also finally cracked and got myself a flickr account, though i haven't uploaded anything yet).

a bit about me to get started i suppose: i'm a twentysomething college student, thisclose to getting my BA with french and theatre arts as my main concentration, and somewhere along the line i may or may not decide to get the german minor i'm currently toying with. i'm also a dj? i dunno.

yup.  that's all i've got for the meantime.  welcome to birdgehrl bits.
